Sub Umbra Floreo

Inspired by the coat of arms on the Belize flag, this painting showcases two men, a paddler and log wood cutter resting after a hard day’s work. The title of the painting “Sub Umbra Floreo” which translates to “under the shade we flourish” is displayed in the painting by the men sitting under a tree for its shade. Looking out at the boats they came from used for transporting mahogany lumber which was heavily traded. The painting harmonizes the beautiful tropical sunset and beach also showing the hardworking men and resilience of our people.
